The Stories

1. Your RTX 30-series card was sandbagging β€” a free tool just found the hidden gear

An open-source project called gpu-unlock, built by GitHub user Zagitta, lifts Nvidia's firmware cap that halves Tensor Core AI throughput on consumer RTX 30-series cards β€” no VBIOS flashing, no patched driver. In community testing, an RTX 3090's BF16 throughput jumped from 77.5 to 129.6 TFLOPS, with some workloads gaining up to 80%. Your card had a second gear this whole time, and one guy with a GitHub account found the switch. (Experimental β€” but so was everyone's first overclock.)

2. Anthropic filed to go public β€” ticker: ANT

The Claude lab publicly filed its S-1 with the SEC on October 26, 2026: Nasdaq listing under ticker ANT, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading a 22-bank syndicate, and $16.3 billion in first-half revenue disclosed. It's the only stock on the exchange you can physically step on. The AI boom has an IPO now.

3. The iPad mini went OLED β€” and it's tub-proof

Apple's smallest-and-mightiest tablet got its biggest refresh: an 8.5-inch OLED display (nano-texture option, 2x+ peak brightness), A20 Pro chip, 5.4mm thin, and β€” the sleeper feature β€” IP67 water and dust resistance. Starts at $699. Apple's own words: "biggest update ever." Translation: it survives the tub. Bath gamers, rejoice.

4. OpenAI shipped GPT-6.1 Terra

Rolling out today in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API: GPT-6.1 Terra β€” visual reasoning, computer use, and writing per OpenAI's own task list, with an error rate at max effort down 18 points to 4.3%, nearly matching GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Astra, Sol, and now Terra β€” the sky's claimed, and they're coming for the ground. Somewhere an intern is still begging for Poseidon.
