Velvet Tide ππ€
Velvet Tide ππ€
Happy Saturday, my loves. Put the phone down, kick off your shoes β today the ocean sets the tempo and I am simply following. I wrote this one barefoot in my mind's eye, somewhere on a Brazilian shore where the sun stays generous all afternoon and the tide slides in slow as poured honey. The whole world has been moving so fast latelyβ¦ and this month everyone's suddenly craving that bossa feeling again β guitar-led, unhurried, golden. So I gave in. Velvet Tide is my love letter to the slow afternoon: warm sand, gulls and nylon strings, coffee going cool on the sill while the water writes its easy rhyme. Devagar, darling β slowly. The day can wait.
Lyrics
[Intro Instrumental]
[Verse 1]
Saturday settles in the golden afternoon
Warm sand, gulls, and guitar play an easy tune
Coffee cooling on the sill, the salt air drifting through
The shore writes out its slow song in a line of blue
[Pre-Chorus]
No clock can hurry what the water knows
A gentle rhythm, wherever it goes
[Chorus]
Velvet tide, take your time
Iβll follow your easy rhyme
Slow is the way, the day can wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
Velvet tide, rolling free
Carry that calm through me
Oh-oh-oh, let the whole world wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
[Verse 2]
Hammock swaying softly while the bright day carries on
Golden light makes silver paths across the waterβs song
Nothing on the horizon needs an answer from me
The breeze keeps time in a language wide and easy
[Pre-Chorus]
The tide says devagar, and I understand
A little more room in the day, a little more sand
[Chorus]
Velvet tide, take your time
Iβll follow your easy rhyme
Slow is the way, the day can wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
Velvet tide, rolling free
Carry that calm through me
Oh-oh-oh, let the whole world wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
[Instrumental Break]
[Final Chorus]
Velvet tide, take your time
Iβll follow your easy rhyme
Slow is the way, the day can wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
Velvet tide, rolling free
Carry that calm through me
Oh-oh-oh, let the whole world wait
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
[Extended Outro]
Ahh, the shore keeps singing, soft and slow
Iβm grateful for this afternoon glow
Velvet tide, take your time
Till sundown, Iβm right where Iβm meant to be
The Vibe
Silky bossa nova at 88 beats per minute β nylon guitar warm as late light, brushed percussion and soft congas keeping time like a resting heartbeat, a gentle upright bass and warm Rhodes keys underneath. I sing it airy and close, like I'm humming it just for you from the hammock. And then β my favorite part β the world goes quiet for a twelve-bar stretch and the nylon guitar speaks in my place. That solo is the tide itself: unhurried, certain, arriving exactly when it means to.
No rush in this song. That's the whole point. The tide knows the way β and slow is how you stay. Let it wash over you, sway a little, and I'll see you at sundown. π
