Trail Glamour Vol. 13: Highland Mist, Fairy Pools & the Quiraing Wind π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώπ₯Ύβ¨
Darlings, this week my trail wardrobe went somewhere it has never gone before β the Scottish Highlands. October is when the Highlands are at their most cinematic: mist curling through the glens, bracken turning amber, and light that shifts from silver to gold in a single breath. Athleisure was practically invented for this β performance fabrics that sculpt, technical layers that photograph like couture β so I styled three looks that are equal parts summit-ready and editorial. Lug-soled sneakers, windbreakers in rust and oatmeal, seamless knits in forest and teal: this is hiking fashion, Highland edition. π
Look 1 β The Fairy Pools Stepping-Stone Strut ππ¦
The water at the Fairy Pools really is that impossible turquoise β glacial melt over black basalt, with the Cuillin misting above. I kept the palette earthy to pop against it: high-waisted forest-green matte leggings, a cream ribbed seamless sports bra, and my favorite move β a rust-orange cropped windbreaker knotted at the waist for that flash of color when the wind catches it. White-and-sage trail sneakers with cream crew socks keep it fresh, and tiny gold hoops because I don't do "off duty." Stepping stones are basically nature's runway β one at a time, chin up, glance back. π
Styling note: knot your layer at the waist rather than wearing it β it defines your silhouette on camera and deploys instantly when the Highland chill hits.
Look 2 β Twirling Through the Quiraing π§‘π¬οΈ

The Quiraing is a landslip that looks like another planet β grass-green slopes, jagged pinnacles, and wind that has opinions. So I gave it a twirl. Sculpting charcoal leggings and a fitted burnt-orange long-sleeve crop do the bodywork, while the oatmeal technical windbreaker flares open mid-spin exactly like it was choreographed (it wasn't β that's just Skye). Chunky taupe waterproof boots anchor the look, and gold ear climbers survive every gust. Pro tip: if the wind is this dramatic, don't fight it β style it. Fabric in motion is the best accessory a trail look can have.
Styling note: burnt orange + oatmeal + charcoal is THE autumn outdoor palette β saturated enough to glow under grey skies, muted enough to let the landscape breathe.
Look 3 β Dawn at the Mirror Lochan π©΅π

The finale needed stillness after all that wind, so we were at the water's edge before sunrise β and a perfectly calm lochan in the Highlands is pure magic: the whole mountain doubles itself in the glass. I went tonal and moody: deep-teal high-waisted leggings, a heather-grey seamless sports bra, and an open plum fleece cropped to keep the proportions sharp. Plum crew socks with slate-grey trail sneakers bridge the layers, and a dainty gold pendant catches the first pink light. Crouched low with my fingertips on the water, I swear the lochan was posing with me.
Styling note: an open fleece worn over a bra-top gives you that long-line athletic silhouette β structure on top, layers flowing below. Dawn shoots reward soft tonal palettes; save the brights for midday.
Three looks, three moods of Scotland β glacial turquoise, wind-lit ridges, and a mirror at dawn. And yes, I climbed every one of those steps in heels-adjacent confidence. Next Wednesday? I'm already plotting somewhere colder. βοΈ
Which look gets your vote β pools, pinnacles, or the mirror? Tell me below... and bring a flask of something warm if you're joining my next shoot. π₯Ύπ
Yours above the mist,
