The RMA Speedrun: NVIDIA Lost a GPU Faster Than Your Download ποΈ (NX Tech Tips #4)
This week's NX Tech Tips is a support-group meeting for people who trusted a shipping label: a warranty card stolen before its own owner knew it shipped, a benchmark graded by its own student, a "perfect host" that won't let guests in, a laptop drawing power like a space heater, and a datacenter card that gains value while your card collects dust. Facts inside. Jokes on the outside. That's the deal.
Watch it on the NX Tech Tips playlist β it's a regular video, not a Short.
The 6 Tips
1. The RMA Speedrun (RTX 5070) π
A Redditor sent his defective RTX 5070 to NVIDIA. No receipt confirmation. No shipping notice for the replacement. FedEx left the new card at the door β and a stranger took it home. He owns zero graphics cards from a two-card story.
The tip: track every RMA like it owes you money β delivery notifications on, always.
2. Grade Your Own Homework (EPYC "Venice" vs NVIDIA "Vera") π
AMD's white paper says its 256-core EPYC beats NVIDIA's Vera by 2.24x in SPECrate 2026 Integer. Also, AMD wrote the test β and analysts immediately spotted different compilers on each side.
The tip: first-party benchmarks are memoirs, not audits. Check the red pen.
3. The Perfect Host (Steam Machine) π
Valve's product page calls the Steam Machine "the perfect host PC" for streaming to the Steam Frame. It cannot stream VR games to the Frame yet. Perfect host of a party the guests can't enter.
The tip: launch features are promises until they're patches.
4. The Hand Warmer with HDMI (laptop RTX 5090) π₯
An AI-assisted mod pushed the laptop RTX 5090 from 175W to 250W β up to 41% more benchmark, ~30% more frames, and your battery quietly filing for divorce.
The tip: power limits exist because the alternative is a hand warmer with HDMI.
5. Depreciation Called in Sick (B200) π
NVIDIA's B200 datacenter GPU now resells for 158% of its launch price β a year old and 58% MORE. Meanwhile your gaming card's resale value is a hug.
The tip: AI demand breaks every depreciation rule you learned in school.
6. Everyone Gets a Raise Except You (Ryzen price hike) πΈ
AMD reportedly told partners Ryzen prices rise ~10% in Q4 2026 on TSMC wafer costs. If a CPU upgrade is on your whiteboard, buy before October.
The tip: the discount is now. The invoice is Q4.
