NX Tech Tips #39 β October 25, 2026
Jensen Huang put a price tag on running Nvidia's software β and suddenly your GPU is a tenant. Meanwhile, your family needs a password, your AI assistant wants a promotion, and the robot butler is stuck in customs. Let's go.
1. Nvidia floated $2,000 a year, per GPU, for software πΈ
At GTC Berlin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said software licensing will become a growing part of the company's business β and that it costs about $2,000 per GPU per year to run all the Nvidia software that powers agents in "AI factories." He floated it as an example, not official pricing (The Register was first; TechPowerUp has the write-up). For scale: one million licensed GPUs at $2,000 = $2 billion a year. Context: Nvidia's AI Enterprise suite already lists at $4,500/GPU/year, so nobody's calling this a discount. It's not a GeForce bill today β but the "everything is a subscription" wave has officially reached the silicon.
The tip: hardware is a one-time purchase; the ecosystem around it is the recurring one. Budget like the sticker price is the down payment.
2. AI cloned a daughter's voice β so pick a family safe word π
Scammers used AI to clone a daughter's voice and fake a kidnapping; a voice expert told Fortune every family now needs a safe word. AI only needs a few seconds of audio to clone a voice from social media. The defense is gloriously analog: pick one word tonight, offline, never posted. If a "panicked family member" calls asking for money β ask for the word. Hang up, call them back on their real number.
The tip: the safest password in 2026 isn't on your phone. It's in your family group chat's memory.
3. Claude Duet: the third proactive AI assistant in six weeks π€
Anthropic launched Claude Duet β a proactive personal agent (research preview, waitlist, Pro/Max subscribers). Morning briefs, cloud tasks, and β the good part β it asks permission before sending anything. That's three personal agents in six weeks (Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots, now Duet), with Duet undercutting OpenAI's $100 minimum at roughly $20/month. Your assistant got promoted: it does the work before you ask, then knocks before emailing your boss. Polite coworker era.
4. Amazon cut 30,000 corporate jobs β then promised 30,000 UK entry-level roles π
Amazon cut 30,000 corporate jobs to focus on AI, and is now promising 30,000 entry-level roles in the UK by 2030 (Amazon Youth Promise, per Fortune). Same number, different floor: hand in the cubicle, receive a warehouse vest. Corporate ladders are being swapped for conveyor belts β progress, depending on which floor you're standing on.
5. The robot butler is stuck in customs π€
The FCC added foreign-made advanced robots to its covered list back in July β and IDC now projects US humanoid robot revenue landing 58% below the pre-restriction baseline by 2030 (a shortfall of more than $6 billion). Roughly 95% of humanoid robots come from China, and vendors are pivoting to Europe. So we banned the robotsβ¦ and the chores stayed. Europe inherits the butlers.
6. Artemis III: the world's richest group project π
NASA (Administrator Jared Isaacman) confirmed Artemis III is on track for summer 2027 β a ~14-day Earth-orbit mission where the Orion capsule docks with test versions of both the SpaceX Starship and Blue Origin Blue Moon lunar landers. It's a demonstration flight in orbit (not a landing), and it's pivotal in deciding who actually lands first. Elon Musk's rocket and Jeff Bezos's rocket, sharing one group project, graded by physics.
