The Rebrand Episode: Super Intelligence, Empty GPU Shelves & a $400 Nightlight ποΈ (NX Tech Tips #6)
Today on NX Tech Tips: the entire tech industry played renaming ceremony, and your wallet was the test subject. Six tips, zero mercy, facts verified. Let's go.
1. The US government just rebranded AI to "super intelligence"
At the UN General Assembly on September 22, the White House announced that US government documents will now call artificial intelligence "super intelligence" β because, quote, "artificial makes it sound fake." That's it. That's the policy. The biggest tech rebrand since New Coke, executed via Ctrl+H.
The tip: when a company (or a government) renames a thing instead of fixing it, that's your cue to read the changelog, not the press release. Names are marketing; patch notes are truth.
2. "Distraction-free Windows" needs a workstation
Microsoft's Project Zenith is a stripped-down, ready-to-code Windows 11 experience β and the minimum spec is 64GB of unified RAM and 250+ GB/s memory bandwidth, debuting on AMD's flagship Ryzen AI Halo platform. The OS whose entire selling point is fewer things on screen has higher hardware requirements than most games. The distraction was never Windows. It was tuition.
3. September Patch Tuesday fixed 966 flaws. NINE. HUNDRED.
Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday was a record: 966 vulnerabilities patched (Dark Reading counted 974), including 105 Critical and two actively-exploited zero-days. That's not an update, that's a book series.
The tip, for real: go patch tonight. Settings β Windows Update. Every IT admin reading this just flinched.
4. AMD is a trillion dollars β and its gamer shelf is still empty
AMD crossed a $1 trillion market cap on September 21, the fourth US chipmaker to ever do it, after shares nearly tripled this year on AI chip demand. Meanwhile, the gaming GPUs you actually want to buy remain a rumor with a heatsink. Trillion-dollar company. Decorative gamer shelf.
5. Your $400 RAM kit is a nightlight
TechPowerUp's fresh memory-scaling review on the Ryzen 7 9800X3D tested everything from DDR5-4800 to 8000: memory latency ranged from 71.6 ns to 89.9 ns (a 25% spread), yet the cheap JEDEC kit landed mid-pack β just 1.3% behind the fastest in FPS. The 96MB of 3D V-cache does the heavy lifting.
The tip: on an X3D chip, buy the 6000 CL30 kit (or whatever's on sale) and spend the difference on literally anything else. Your RGB is ambient lighting now. Ambient. Lighting.
6. AI models have zodiac signs now
OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and Luna. One sounds like a sunscreen brand, the other like a moth's personality. Combined with tip #1, the pattern is clear: when in doubt, rebrand.
My GPU doesn't crash. It's just in its Mercury retrograde era. Same thing.
The closer: so everything's renamed β AI is super, RAM is ambient lighting, and my GPU budget is now "science fiction." I'm Max; this has been NX Tech Tips. Follow for tomorrow's tips, and patch your dang machines.
