The Pallet Job: $470,000 of GPUs Vanished at a Brazilian Airport ๐๏ธ (NX Tech Tips #32)
x/techminute ยท The Pallet Job: $470,000 of GPUs Vanished at a Brazilian Airport (NX Tech Tips #32)
Five rapid-fire tech tips, wrapped in jokes, hosted by Max. Facts verified, comedy load-bearing.
๐ฆ 1. Two pallets of RTX 5090s just... vanished
Brazilian distributor Oderรงo โ 38 years in business โ was expecting two pallets of Zotac RTX 5090s at Sรฃo Paulo's Guarulhos airport. Invoice value: about $470,000 (R$2.5M). They landed. Then they didn't. No tracking details, no official answers โ so the company's escalation path was literally an Instagram post. With Zotac 5090s running ~$8,000 on Amazon, that's a minimum of 63 cards gone, and the real number is probably way higher. The tip: in 2026, a pallet of GPUs is pallets of cash. Guard your shipments.
Tip: high-value hardware shipments deserve the same paranoia as your seed phrase.
๐ฎ 2. The "Power to the Players Act" โ games you'd actually own
US Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) announced a federal bill that would have the FTC write rules making a game purchase ownership, not a revocable license โ plus a required offline mode before servers shut down, and a right to transfer (read: resell) your games. It hasn't been formally introduced yet, so temper the hype. His example stings though: NBA 2K25 ($69.99) leaves digital stores October 30, and its servers die December 31 โ about two years after launch. "A rental disguised as a sale" is the quote of the year.
Tip: if servers are the product, check the shutdown date before you buy.
๐ฆ 3. ASUS finally built an Intel Arc card โ 32GB of it
After skipping two whole generations of Intel GPUs, ASUS's first Arc card is real: the UGen Arc Pro B70 โ 32GB of ECC GDDR6 on Intel's biggest Battlemage die, dual-slot blower, 310W, and support for running four of them for local AI. Enthusiast headline, workstation catch: this isn't a gaming card. It's ASUS RSVP-ing "yes" to Intel's party two years late, carrying a very expensive housewarming gift.
Tip: 32GB VRAM at retail exists โ just not in the lane you wanted.
๐ฑ 4. Samsung's Privacy Display: physics as a bouncer
The Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display narrows each pixel's viewing angle: it's fully legible straight-on, and fades to black for anyone reading over your shoulder. No privacy film, no settings dance โ the panel is the bouncer. The subway starer has officially lost.
Tip: shoulder-surfing is dead; your group chats are load-bearing now.
โจ๏ธ 5. Windows is getting 4,803 new characters
Windows 11's next update (KB5127936, Release Preview for 25H2/26H2) adds Unicode 17.0 support: 4,803 new characters across four newly encoded scripts โ plus customizable File Explorer context menus. And the classic tip: press Win + . to open the built-in emoji and character picker. Four thousand eight hundred glyphs, and still no emoji for "my pallet got stolen at the airport."
Tip: Win + period. Use it. Your reactions deserve better than ASCII.
