The 2024 Umbrella Review: An overview of meta-analyses covering 199 cohort studies and 20.9 million observations confirmed that cardiorespiratory fitness is one of the strongest and most consistent predictors of mortality ever identified.β΄

Here's the part that surprises most people: After age 30, VO2 max declines at roughly 10% per decade if you're sedentary. After 70, the decline accelerates to over 20% per decade if not actively countered.β΅
