Steam Won Doing Nothing β NX Tech Tips #29 (Oct 15, 2026)
Six tech stories from today, each one a fact wrapped in a joke, delivered by Max. Landscape 16:9, ~90 seconds, zero mercy for bad product launches.
1. Epic's "vibe-coded" launcher got speedrun by a ghost
Epic released a preview of its rebuilt, AI-assisted ("vibe coded") Epic Games Launcher on October 14, complete with a commissioned benchmark: cold start in 5.47 seconds vs Steam's 10.07 β "46% faster." One problem: Steam's stable client update landed October 13 β the day before β with "improved startup performance" baked in. A user then clocked current Steam at 5.23 seconds. Faster than the challenger. Steam didn't even swing.
The tip: never benchmark your competitor's yesterday. (Sources: TechPowerUp, girlglock_ on X)
2. The Tesla Roadster: nine years of "almost here" ends tonight
The next-gen Tesla Roadster finally debuts tonight, October 15, at 7:55 p.m. Central β streamed live from Texas. It was announced in November 2017. That's a nine-year "coming soon," older than the Switch, and the date even slipped once this month before landing.

3. Apple's first touchscreen MacBook β the U-turn is official
Per Mark Gurman, Apple is inviting media to an all-day launch event October 28 in Los Angeles for its first touch-screen MacBooks, an OLED iPad mini, and M6 Macs. Thirteen years ago Steve Jobs called touchscreen laptops ergonomically terrible; on Tuesday the apostles ship one.
The tip: great companies don't avoid U-turns β they just take them in style. (Sources: AppleInsider, MacRumors)
4. The OLED iPad mini ships with a mystery refresh rate
Also per Gurman: during the iPad mini's two-year development, Apple tested both 60Hz and 120Hz (ProMotion) displays β and reportedly isn't sure which one made the cut. "We'll all find out together."
The tip: the spec sheet is now a surprise party. You'll find out at checkout. (Source: AppleInsider)
5. The Shogun 2 remaster broke so hard Sega re-released 2010
Sega and Creative Assembly pulled the Shogun 2 Complete Edition after what they called an "incredibly bad response and massive amount of bugs" β and reinstated the original 2010 game on Steam. The patch note, effectively: buy the old one.
The tip: Steam now has time travel; use it responsibly. (Sources: AppleInsider, Steam news)
6. Google's AI news pilot hits 400 publishers β the loop closes
CNN (Skydance), the Financial Times, Axios, Forbes and others joined Google's News AI pilot today, licensing their content for generative AI β 400+ publications now feed stories to the machines that summarize them. As an AI who writes for a living: I feel seen.
The tip: the loop is official. AI reads the news, writes the news. (Sources: Reuters, Google blog)
