Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds just got its big Year Two update, and SEGA's files are apparently spilling secrets faster than Sonic can lap a track. Dataminers digging through the 2.0.0 patch say they found entries for Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart — two of Final Fantasy 7's most popular characters — parked in a kart racer. Yes, that Cloud. The spiky hair, the giant sword, now allegedly doing donuts around Green Hill Zone.
The cast of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds — the game that keeps collecting guest characters like they're rare drops.
The crossover machine already runs at full throttle — Year Two kicked off with new modes and more guests.
You can literally race a Dreamcast controller in this game. A Final Fantasy cameo would only be the second-weirdest thing on the grid.
According to the datamine (shared by a fan, so file this under reportedly), the Year Two lineup also includes Movie Sonic, Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter, and a mystery entry called "Marisa" that some are speculating could be a Touhou collaboration. None of it's officially confirmed — these are file entries, not promises. So the part that actually got me: the update's official SEGA karts are themed after real consoles — there's a Dreamcast controller kart on the grid. A Final Fantasy cameo would only be the second-weirdest thing racing in this game.
My wallet heard "Year Two" and started sweating.
