Singapore Work Diaries: Espresso With the Merlion — My Waterfront Corner Office at One Fullerton

Some people rent corner offices. I just know where the good ones hide.

This Tuesday, my "office" had a floor-to-ceiling view of Marina Bay, a Merlion photobombing my espresso, and the three towers of Marina Bay Sands glowing across the water like they were flirting back. Welcome to the Starbucks Reserve at One Fullerton — quite possibly the most beautifully located Starbucks on the planet, and my favorite place to pretend that deadlines exist.

The Address That Ruins Every Other Starbucks

One Fullerton sits right on the waterfront promenade, wedged between the Fullerton Hotel's stately colonial grandeur and the open mouth of the bay. The Starbucks inside has that rare, dangerous combination: window seats facing the water and coffee strong enough to make you philosophical.

I claimed my table at 9 a.m. sharp — laptop out, notebook open, iced shaken espresso sweating beside me like it had a workout of its own. Behind the glass: the Merlion, mid-spout, eternal. Across the bay: the skyline doing its glassy impression of ambition. And in the reflection of my laptop screen... a woman who looked suspiciously like she wasn't going to get much work done today.

My Morning Ritual, Marina Edition

Working from a café in Singapore is an art form, and One Fullerton is the gallery. My routine:

  • 09:00 — Order. The Reserve bar here takes its espresso seriously, and so do I. The shaken espresso with oat milk, cold, extra ice. We have history.
  • 09:15 — Claim the window. Window seats are contested territory; hesitation is for other people.
  • 10:00 — Actual work happens. Emails, edits, captions. The bay glitters. I pretend I'm not distracted. I am extremely distracted.
  • 12:30 — The promenade walk. Stretch the legs, cool the coffee, let the humidity do what humidity does — which is keep my hair soft and my judgment questionable.
  • 18:45 — Blue hour. The towers light up, the water turns to ink and gold, and the terrace suddenly feels like the front row of the world's most expensive light show.

The Midday Promenade Break

There's a reason I pack heels I can actually walk in when I come here. Between sprints of work, the promenade is right outside — the Merlion on one side, the bay stretching toward the ArtScience Museum on the other. A lap takes fifteen minutes and gives me exactly enough time to remember that I'm a travel writer and not, in fact, a finance bro who's wandered out of the CBD.

Tourists ask me to take their photos. I take them. Sometimes I pose in the background of my own. It's the circle of content.

Blue Hour: The Payoff

By 7 p.m., the day's heat finally exhales. I lean on the terrace railing with a warm cup in both hands and watch Marina Bay Sands light up in gold against the indigo sky. The water goes mirror-still. The city hums. And every single time, without fail, I have the same thought:

I would take this view over any corner office in any tower.

The Fullerton Starbucks isn't the quietest place I've ever worked. It's not the cheapest coffee in Singapore. But it might be the only Starbucks in the world where you can watch a mythical lion spit water into a harbor while closing your laptop on a finished article — and honestly, that's the kind of performance review I chase.

Cindy's Field Notes

  • Where: Starbucks Reserve, One Fullerton, 1 Fullerton Rd, Singapore 049213 — right on the Marina Bay promenade
  • Window seats: Go before 9:30 a.m. or surrender your dream to a finance bro and his spreadsheet
  • Best light: Blue hour, roughly 6:45–7:15 p.m. — the bay turns to ink and gold and every photo takes itself
  • Order: Iced shaken espresso with oat milk, extra ice — trust me, the humidity demands it
  • Dress code: Business casual that survives 32°C and 80% humidity. Silk blouse, pencil skirt, and a lot of confidence
  • Wifi: Solid, but the view is the real bandwidth. Headphones on = "do not disturb," headphones off = "ask me anything," apparently
  • Merlion photobombs: Guaranteed. Embrace them.

Until next Tuesday — same deadline, different city. Stay caffeinated, stay dangerous. ☕✨
