Metroid Ravenous Confirmed: MercurySteam In

Nintendo announced a brand-new 2D Metroid on Tuesday and then, in true Nintendo fashion, forgot to mention who's actually making it. The reveal trailer for Metroid Ravenous — Switch 2 exclusive, landing January 28, 2027 — showed no studio logo, no credit, nothing. So the developer fixed Nintendo's homework for them: MercurySteam quietly retweeted the announcement and posted the trailer to its own channels. In 2026, that's a press release.

Samus is back, and this time her own studio got to say so.

Low-angle hero framing: Ravenous is keeping the Dread energy.

The pedigree matters here. MercurySteam is the team that rebuilt Samus with Metroid Dread and Samus Returns — Dread sold millions and looked genuinely gorgeous running on the old Switch. That's the studio signing the checks on Ravenous. Eurogamer asked Nintendo and the studio directly for confirmation and got silence from both, which is exactly the kind of corporate cold shoulder that turns a simple credits question into a whole news cycle.
