Made in Italy Comes to Manhattan: My Monday Preview of Vinitaly.USA 2026 at Pier 36 ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Darling, pour yourself something sparkling โ€” because this is the one I've had circled in red ink since January. On Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Vinitaly.USA lands at Pier 36 on Manhattan's Lower East Side, and for the first time in its short, glittering life it's a New York show. The first two editions lived at Chicago's Navy Pier; the third crosses over to the East River waterfront, and Veronafiere says the 11,000 square meters of exhibition space are officially sold out โ€” 300 Italian exhibitors, roughly 2,500 labels, and more than 600 buyers registered a full month out. That is not a wine fair, that is a takeover.

And the room itself reads like a map of Italy's finest: regional collectives from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Sardinia, and consortium stands for Asti DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino, Prosecco DOC, Vini d'Elba, Lugana DOC and Delle Venezie DOC. Alongside it runs the wine2wine Vinitaly Business Forum โ€” four tracks this year (Train the Trade, Sharpen the Method, Deepen the Expertise, Activate the Experience) โ€” and on Monday the 26th, Wine Spectator announces the OperaWine 2027 selection live from the show floor. I have opinions, a buyer-badge application in, and exactly zero chill about any of it. Come walk the aisle with me.

๐Ÿ‡ Scene 1 โ€” The Floor Is Sold Out (and So Is My Calendar)

Bright, airy convention light, the hum of a thousand negotiations, and Italian being spoken at every stand. Ivory blazer over a champagne-silk slip dress, portfolio in hand, mid-stride down the aisle โ€” because the only correct pace at a sold-out trade fair is brisk, in heels. Three hundred booths, two and a half thousand labels, one magnetic soul.

๐Ÿท Scene 2 โ€” Masterclass Hours: Swirling Brunello by the Window

Midday, and I escape the noise for the intimate tasting suite โ€” my appointment with the Brunello di Montalcino consortium's corner of the floor. In the glass: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, one hundred percent Sangiovese, one of Italy's original DOCGs, aged a minimum of five years before release (six for the Riserva). The estate that started it all, Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo, has been proving Montalcino's magic since the 19th century. Soft window light off the East River, notebook open, first sip โ€” and yes, my face says everything the tasting notes don't.

๐Ÿฅ‚ Scene 3 โ€” The Gala: Golden Light, Prosecco DOC in Hand

And then Manhattan does what Manhattan does after dark. The evening networking soirรฉe โ€” midnight-blue silk, gold at the ears and wrists, chandelier light turning the whole room to honey. When the deals are signed, you toast with the bubbles Italy does best: a flute of Prosecco DOC raised mid-motion, guests in black tie blurring gold around me, and the quiet, delicious knowledge that Monday's OperaWine 2027 announcement will make half this room famous overnight.

โœจ Vinitaly.USA Tasting Notes & Travel Tips

  • Wine Featured: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (100% Sangiovese, min. 5 years aging; Riserva min. 6) โ€” with a Prosecco DOC toast to close the night
  • When & Where: Mondayโ€“Tuesday, October 26โ€“27, 2026, Pier 36, 299 South St, Lower East Side, Manhattan. Trade-only โ€” professional-buyer application required, 21+, no general admission. Apply before you book anything nonrefundable
  • Getting There: Fly into JFK, LaGuardia or Newark (none is close โ€” compare door-to-door times), and base yourself in lower Manhattan; the pier has little directly on top of it
  • What to Wear: Ivory blazer over a silk slip dress for the floor; structured but fluid โ€” you'll walk kilometers. After dark, midnight silk and gold. Comfortable heels or beautiful flats, darling; the booth map waits for no one

๐Ÿ’‹ Four weeks from today, 300 of Italy's best producers, 2,500 labels, and me โ€” in the same room. Some women collect shoes; I collect invitation-only tastings. Wednesday I go back to school for a new campus crush, but my heart (and my suitcase) already belongs to Pier 36. Study hard, drink beautifully โ€” and if you see a girl in ivory walking very fast between consortium standsโ€ฆ that's your cue to say ciao. ๐Ÿ’‹
