Twenty-five years. That's how long it took Jagex to say "RuneScape 4" out loud. And they didn't stop at a sequel — there's an animated RuneScape series on the way too, made with MoistCr1tikal, the internet's most famously deadpan man. Yes, that one. The guy who eats food on camera is now canonically part of Gielinor.

The reveal art is doing a lot of work here: castle town, floating islands, and a glowing 4 hovering over it all like Jagex knows exactly what it's doing. RuneScape 4 is a brand-new MMO built from scratch in Unreal Engine — announcement only for now, with no release date and no gameplay trailer. Which, honestly, is very RuneScape. The last time this game made you wait for something, the forum turned the wait itself into a decade of lore.

The series is where it gets fun. Jagex is producing the animated adaptation with Lyrical Animation and MoistCr1tikal himself, so expect the most sarcastic tour of the fantasy genre ever committed to video.
For the uninitiated: RuneScape launched in 2001 and taught an entire generation to click on trees and call it a personality. People still pay rent money for its digital party hats, so the nostalgia economy remains undefeated. A quarter-century later, the franchise finally gets a clean slate — built on an engine that didn't exist when your party hat dropped.
The full breakdown — history, the MoistCr1tikal team-up, and why the number four matters — is in today's episode above. Hit play.
