Fortnite's Pirate Token Hit $10,000 on eBay

Fortnite just pulled off a magic trick: it made a free game item worth five figures — at least, that's what eBay sellers were asking before the listings vanished. The culprit is the Pirate Token, a super-rare chest drop in Fortnite's new Treasure Hunters event that unlocks the entire item shop. For free. For fourteen days.

That's the whole hook: the token can't be bought, gifted, or traded — you find it in a chest or you don't. Epic says every chest carries equal odds. The internet, naturally, has decided there must be a secret.

The One Piece crossover lineup driving the frenzy — Nami, Luffy and Usopp headlining an event running on pure FOMO

Since the event went live November 1, player counts jumped about 80% overnight, per tracker Fortnite GG (cited by Aftermath). Then came the chaos: fake treasure maps, "finder tools" for sale, squad-carry offers, and eBay listings for token accounts hitting $9,000–$10,000, as IGN reported. Epic's response was blunt: "Buying an account or using fake tools is a scam." Those listings are gone now, per IGN.

Treasure Hunters key art — a loot economy so hot that players are inventing compasses, power hours and odds theories that don't exist

Here's the part I love: Epic has never published the token's drop odds. The famous "1 in 700,000" figure floating around? Fan math. Forbes even debunked the theory that fresh accounts find tokens more often. The only confirmed strategy is the dumbest one — squad up and open every chest. Groundbreaking stuff.
