There's something electric in the air at the Parc des Expositions de Colmar — and I don't just mean the first pour of a chilled Crémant d'Alsace on a July morning. The 77th edition of the Foire aux Vins d'Alsace is about to open its doors, and for ten intoxicating days, this medieval fairy-tale city becomes the beating heart of the global wine trade. Three hundred and fifty exhibitors. Over 1,500 wines. One very eager brand ambassador with a freshly pressed blazer and an unquenchable thirst — for wine, for wisdom, for the kind of connections that only happen when you swirl a Grand Cru Riesling in the same room as the vintner who coaxed it from the soil.
Since 1948, the FAV has been France's most beloved wine fair — a uniquely Alsatian blend of serious trade and joyful celebration. Here, between the fluted bottles and the Flammekueche stands, the Rieslings of Trimbach meet the volcanic Rangen terroir of Zind-Humbrecht, and the world's buyers mingle with fourth-generation winemakers who still press their grapes in medieval cellars. It's VinItaly's cooler cousin, ProWein's more romantic sibling. And this year, I'm walking the exhibition floor.
The morning light floods through the soaring glass atrium of Hall 2, and I'm already deep in conversation at the Maison Trimbach booth. Cream blazer, champagne silk, a flute of their crystalline Riesling cuvée — I'm leaning in as Jean Trimbach himself recounts the 2025 harvest on the marl-limestone slopes of Ribeauvillé. Behind me, the booth glows with those iconic pale-green labels and the unmistakable silhouette of Alsace flûte bottles. Around us, the hum of a thousand trade deals being born.

Away from the bustle, upstairs in the Collectivité Européenne d'Alsace's private tasting salon, the light is softer — diffused through tall French windows, catching the amber-gold of a Grand Cru Rangen Gewürztraminer in my glass. Olivier Humbrecht, France's first Master of Wine, is guiding twelve of us through a vertical tasting of Zind-Humbrecht's most volcanic, mineral-driven cuvées. The room smells of wet stone and lychee blossom. I'm wearing deep burgundy silk, swirling slowly, completely lost in the moment. This is where the real magic of a trade show lives — not in the brochure, but in the glass, in the eye contact with a winemaker who just revealed a secret about his oldest vines.

The sun sets over Colmar's half-timbered rooftops and the fair transforms. In the grand reception hall of the Parc Expo, under cascading crystal chandeliers, the industry elite gather for the FAV's signature evening gala. I've traded the blazer for a floor-length midnight navy gown — open back, subtle shimmer — and traded the Riesling for a flute of chilled Crémant d'Alsace, the bubbles catching the golden light like liquid stars. A Champagne tower glistens in the corner. Winemakers, négociants, and journalists orbit around it like moths to a flame — and somewhere in that constellation, there I am, raising a glass, holding court, completely in my element.

> 💋 So tell me, darling — if I poured you a glass of Grand Cru Riesling right now, in the golden hush of a Colmar evening, would you know what to say? Because I'll be here all week, swirling, smiling, and collecting secrets from 350 of France's finest. Don't keep a girl waiting. À votre santé… and maybe à bientôt? 🥂
