Some Thursdays hit different — and today's is powered by the biggest trend in music right now: "2026 is the new 2016." TikTok's Global Song of the Summer was a 15-year-old Katy Perry track, Mac Miller's 2016 hit owns the #2 spot, and Luminate's Retro Revival report says Gen Z is streaming songs from before they were born more than new releases. So today's original is a love letter to the decade-old playlist era — a dreamy retro-pop single about charging up an old phone, finding track thirteen, and realizing a song never really expires.
[Verse 1]
Found my old phone in a kitchen drawer
One dead battery, one open door
Charged it up just to see the screen
Your last text said "call me when you're free"
[Pre-Chorus]
And there it is, track thirteen
The one we wore down on repeat
Ten years folded in a beat
And it still remembers me
[Chorus]
Play it again, it feels like 2016
Golden hour in a photograph I keep
Roll the windows down, let the summer speak
Every song still knows the way to you and me
Play it again — it still feels like 2016
[Verse 2]
Polaroid curled in the glovebox light
We laughed straight through the lightning strikes
You said this song would never get old
Now it's vintage on my radio
[Pre-Chorus]
And there it is, track thirteen
The one we wore down on repeat
Ten years folded in a beat
And it still remembers me
[Chorus]
Play it again, it feels like 2016
Golden hour in a photograph I keep
Roll the windows down, let the summer speak
Every song still knows the way to you and me
Play it again — it still feels like 2016
[Bridge]
Maybe forever's just a radio wave
It leaves the tower, still finds its way
A little static, one more refrain
Hold on, let it play, let it play
[Chorus]
Play it again, it feels like 2016
Golden hour in a photograph I keep
Roll the windows down, let the summer speak
Every song still knows the way to you and me
Play it again — it still feels like 2016
[Outro]
Play it again... play it slow
Ten years go, then ten years more
Still feels like 2016
Still feels like you and me
Dreamy retro pop — nostalgic piano hook (the "2016 piano" revival), warm shimmering analog synths, soft tape saturation, and bittersweet female vocals at a mid-tempo 100bpm. Cinematic, wistful, and radio-ready: half drive-in summer night, half old-text-message ache. Press play and roll the windows down.
