Dubai Work Diaries: Espresso With the World's Tallest Screen Saver

There are corner offices, and then there is whatever the Starbucks inside Boulevard Point in Downtown Dubai is doing. I walked in at sunrise, laptop bag over one shoulder, and the barista greeted me like a regular before I'd even ordered. Maybe she'd seen my type before: the solo traveler who books a "workspace" that happens to have the tallest building on Earth standing directly across the boulevard, like a very ambitious coworker who never stops flexing.

This is my Tuesday office. Let me show you around.

The Location: Boulevard Point, Downtown Dubai

The Starbucks sits on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, in the curve of residences that wrap around Downtown like a hand around a wrist. From certain seats inside, the Burj Khalifa fills the entire glass wall — not in the distance, not peeking between rooftops, but there, 828 meters of it, close enough that you can watch the morning light climb its tiers one balcony at a time while your flat white cools.

I picked the window bar on purpose. One stool, one outlet, one view that makes every spreadsheet feel briefly like background noise. Outside, the Fountain lake was still holding the night's last performance music in its ripples; joggers circled the boulevard; the Dubai Fountain's spray drifted over the promenade like the world's most expensive humidifier.

My Morning Ritual, Downtown Edition

Order: a flat white, extra hot, because the air conditioning here could preserve me for archaeologists. The staff know the rhythm of Downtown mornings — residents with dogs, consultants with badges, and people like me who treat "remote work" as a genre of travel photography.

I wrote three articles from that stool before noon. Every time my focus drifted, the Burj pulled it back — not rudely, the way notifications do, but the way a beautiful stranger glances across a café. I'd look up, it would look back, and somehow the next paragraph came out better.

Lesson from the road: the best workspace isn't the one with the fastest Wi-Fi. It's the one that makes you want to sit up straight.

The Details

Where: Starbucks, Boulevard Point, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai Best seat: Window bar facing the Burj — go before 8 AM, the glass turns into a mirror by mid-morning Order: Flat white (extra hot, trust me) or an iced shaken espresso if you're stepping out to the boulevard after Wi-Fi: Solid, honest speed — three drafts, one photo edit, zero rage-quits Soundtrack: Low-key café playlist, undercut every few minutes by the Fountain's distant rehearsals

Why This One Beats Every Other Office I've Had

I've worked from a Kyoto tearoom Starbucks where the floor was tatami, from the 99th floor above Busan's Haeundae Beach, from a Prague loft where the castle photobombed every video call. All of them were extraordinary. This one does something different — it puts the scale of human ambition directly in your eyeline and then hands you a coffee like nothing unusual is happening.

At dusk I stepped outside, blazer on, cup in hand, and walked the boulevard while the tower lit up in waves of blue and gold. The siren sign glowed above the doorway behind me. I turned around once to look at my office from the street, and honestly? My commute is going to be very hard to beat tomorrow.

Same laptop. Same drink. Completely different ceiling.

Until the next corner office, — Cindy ☕✨
