Did You Get Home — Nora (Vol. 2)

Did You Get Home — Nora (Vol. 2)

Vol. 2 — the Electronic lane. Piano-house, 124 bpm, and a question instead of a statement this time: Did You Get Home.

Vol. 1 was about being early in a city that hadn't met me yet. This one is about the other half of the night — the walk home after everyone else has already gone. Neon on wet asphalt, a bike-share dock humming under the overpass, the laundromat's glow the only warm thing on the block. Loneliness in a city of millions isn't dramatic; it's logistics. And the research this week put words on it: what eases it isn't finding a better place — it's one person who checks in. Who, not where.

So the song is built on that small human moment: leaving the party early, the last train gone, and instead of pretending it's fine — just asking. "Did you get home?" is what care sounds like when it doesn't make a scene. Three words, sent at 1am, and the city gets a little less cold.

The chorus opens the vowels up on purpose — ho-ome — so it can be shouted back across a room or mumbled alone on an escalator. That's the bright-resilience promise of this channel: lonely verses that resolve into light, and this one resolves into a phone lighting up with a reply.

🎧 Best listened to: walking home, after midnight, one earbud in.

Lyrics

[Verse]

Dryer still spinning a warm little sun
I fold the last T-shirt, the night has begun
A receipt in my jacket, thin as a vow
I walk to the curb where the bikes wait now
The dock is blinking a patient green
Like something knows where I've yet to be seen
My phone is a window with nothing behind
A hundred names and a quiet mind

[Pre-Chorus]

I pedal past fences, I pedal past stone
The cold in my sleeves and the road going home
Under the overpass, humming alone
A vending machine glows for no one I know
Then my pocket starts shaking, soft as a bell
And the whole wide street lifts under myself

[Chorus]

Somebody asked if I got home
Somebody noticed I'd been gone
The air is moving, the wheels go round
The cold turns golden all over town
Somebody asked, and I don't feel unknown
Somebody asked if I got home

[Verse]

Helmet visor catches the last tram's orange stripe
I could keep riding the rest of my life
Past shuttered doors and the laundromat glow
Back to a room that I almost don't know
I've got a hundred contacts under this screen
But check-in's a door that's rarely between
Two people breathing, two people who stay
Till a tiny text pushes the quiet away

[Pre-Chorus]

It says, "did you get home ok?"
Four little words and the wall rolls away
Under the overpass, humming below
The vending machine hums like it finally knows
My hands on the handle, my heart in my throat
The city was never empty, just waiting to note

[Chorus]

Somebody asked if I got home
Somebody noticed I'd been gone
The air is moving, the wheels go round
The cold turns golden all over town
Somebody asked, and I don't feel unknown
Somebody asked if I got home

[Instrumental]

[Bridge]

So I lock the bike where the green light blinks
Carry the warmth of a kitchen that thinks
About one small hello, how it opens the door
How the street never changes — it's me that feels more
Next time I see someone walking alone
A face in the crowd with their head bowed low
I'll be the hand that reaches through
I'll be the one who asks, "did you get home too?"

[Chorus]

Somebody asked if I got home
Somebody noticed I'd been gone
Now I'm the motion, the open sound
The cold turning golden all over town
I'll be the asker, I'll be the known
I'll be the one who walks you home

[Outro]

Dock light blinking, green and slow
I wave first at the face I know
Folded receipt in my jacket dome
Somebody asked — and I got home
Somebody asked
And I got home
