I made Breathing Room thinking about the first slow hour after waking — the daybed still rumpled, the mug steaming, the curtains moving a little with the breeze. Nothing in the song hurries. Airy pads open alone, like a long easy exhale, and a soft felt piano wanders in with just a two-phrase idea it keeps gently revisiting. Underneath: a warm Rhodes, a round mellow bass, drums so quiet they're more suggestion than beat, and a faint haze of vinyl and morning room tone way in the back.
