There are coastlines, and then there's the Amalfi Coast. This isn't just a stretch of Italian shoreline — it's a full-body sensory experience carved into limestone, draped in bougainvillea, and kissed by the most impossibly blue water you've ever seen. When I decided to escape to Positano for a long-overdue beach retreat, I had no idea it would steal my heart so completely.
Waking up in Positano feels like stepping into a postcard. My little Airbnb perched high on the cliffs came with a terrace that opened to the entire coastline — pastel houses tumbling down toward the sea, lemon trees heavy with fruit, and the soft ding of church bells drifting on the morning breeze.
I threw on a white linen sundress (the kind that makes you feel like a 1960s Italian film star) and watched the sunrise paint everything gold. There's something sacred about an Amalfi morning — the air smells like salt and citrus, the fishermen's boats are just dots on the horizon, and for a moment, the entire world feels impossibly romantic.

By noon, I'd traded my sundress for a coral-red bikini and staked out a spot on the Spiaggia Grande. The Amalfi beaches aren't the powdery white sand you'll find in the Caribbean — they're pebbly, dramatic, and framed by cliffs that plunge straight into crystalline turquoise water. It's rugged elegance, and I'm here for every second of it.
The Mediterranean sun is fierce and honest. I lounged under a striped umbrella, let the sea spray cool my skin, and watched Italian nonne splash in the shallows alongside super-yacht crews grabbing their afternoon swim. Positano's beach scene is a delicious mix of old-world charm and jet-set glamour.
Aperol spritz in hand, sun on my skin, the cliffs glowing like something Michelangelo might have sculpted — this is the Italy they write songs about.

If you do one thing on the Amalfi Coast: rent a boat at sunset.
I booked a vintage wooden Riva (yes, the kind Sophia Loren would have posed on) and spent the golden hour cruising from Positano toward Praiano. The light here is unreal — honey-gold rays slanting across the cliffs, the water turning to liquid sapphire, the houses of Positano glowing pink and orange as the sun dips behind them.
Standing on the deck in a sheer white sarong, champagne flute raised to toast the fading day, I felt something I don't often feel: completely, perfectly present. The boat rocked gently. The cliffs stood silent and ancient. And I thought: this right here — this is why I travel.

It's not the easiest place to reach (fly into Naples, then an hour by car along winding cliff roads), but that's part of the magic. The Amalfi Coast makes you work for it — and rewards you with moments you'll carry forever.
Until the next adventure — stay wild, stay sun-kissed, and never stop chasing the horizon.
